Windows Xp Won’t Install/repair?

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I have a problem with my old computer. (It worked fine the other day). XP won’t boot up, and when I press enter on ‘Start Windows Normally’ it just reboots and comes up with same message. So I figured I try to repair or reinstall it. So I put the XP CD in my computer, it boots up fine, loads all setup files, and then asks me 3 Options;
1. Run XP Setup (Press ENTER)
2.Repair Windows Installation using Recovery Console. (Press R)
3. Quit Installation. (Press F3)
So I press R to repair it but then it comes up with this error message:
“A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disabale or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragementation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuraion and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Why Wont My Myspace Page Load Properly?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

For the past few days Myspace doesn’t load properly. All the links that are usually across the top of the page are all the way down the left margin, text overlaps, and all the images appear as little boxes with red x’s in them. It’s only like this on Internet explorer. It works fine on the AOL browser. I uninstalled IE8 and it’s the same problem with IE7, so I put IE8 back again. I checked all my add ons, and everything is updated. I tried to restore back to 4 days ago when the problem ocurred, but since I’m running Vista, it wont let me restore that far back in time. When I click on the exclamation point in the bottom left corner that says “error on page”, this is what the message tells me:
Webpage error details

Dell C600 Ati Drivers Won’t Load!?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I’m very experienced with computers, but I’ve finally found one that’s got me stumped.
I reinstalled Windows XP, and now I can’t get my ATI Mobility 3 drivers to work on my Dell c600 laptop . The C600 Drivers and Downloads page only has Win2k drivers. Maybe that was my first mistake, because I went ahead and downloaded the Windows 2000 drivers, (after all, XP is Win2k-based, they should work, right?)
So I ran the ATI driver setup.exe, and clicked Accept, Next, etc. and then… I get an error, “Driver not Found!”, I click OK, another error window appears: “SEVERE: Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adaptor with a standard vga driver before running setup.”
Probably the weirdest part of all is even though the DirectX Diagnostic (dxdiag.exe) detects the standard vga.sys driver, the Device Manager does not. It doesn’t even show a Display adapter of any kind. See screenshot: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2583/3988… Is there an IRQ conflict?
So I figured it’s the chipset driver that needs to be installed first in order to install the video adapter. At that point I went to Intel.com and downloaded the chipset driver. (440BX Mobile AGPset). I got an error when I tried installing it: “the current operating system supports the Intel chipset devices on your system. No INF update is needed”
No update needed? :S That’s crazy, does anyone have any advice, please?
