Need To Format Xp From Startup?
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009Okay, so a friend of mine somehow messed up his computer… bad while trying to fix it after a virus hit.
When the computer is turned on it has the option to Boot either XP or XP Setup. It will auto attempt to run setup by default without a disk and get an error atapi.sys is corrupt.
If you go to XP start up it won’t let him insert his password to log in, we assume because of the virus. So logging in is impossible.
So, he has decided to cut his losses (he backs up everything) and format his computer.
The problem is that his computer won’t boot from CD, even after changing the BIOS to boot from CD before the HDD.
It has been ages, but I know there was a way to format the computer w/o a startup disk from start up using one of the F keys and c:/format ntfs (or something like that?) once it his a DOS-type screen.
Does anyone know how to do this, or how to go about formatting this PC?

What Is Dyhvurns.dll? What Program Is It Associated With? Why Am I Getting An Error Loading It On Start-up?
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009Follow either option:
Option 1 -
1. Navigate to “Start > Run” or by pressing the “Windows Key + R”
2. Type in “msconfig”
3. Click on the “Startup” tab
4. Locate the error message(s) that you get on startup and remove the checks from them, remove any other programs from startup as you like.
5. Click Apply then OK
Option 2 -
1. Download / Install CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloa…
2. Navigate to “Tools > Startup”
3. Locate the error message(s) that you get and click on the delete button to remove them.
You may also want to consider installing an Anti-Virus to prevent errors from occurring. Some free Anti-Virus programs include:
Avast: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi…
Avira: http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe…
Pcguard And Startup Group And C++?
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009I recently clean installed XPpro with SP2 and then pcguard. I found 2 things had gone wrong – there were error messages in ‘alerts’ for sidebyside (loads of them) and in help and support, tools, my computer info, view a list of microsoft software….., in the startup group there are nearly 2000 items listed! exe dll and ocx from the i386 folder maybe.
Is this normal for pcguard and how can I stop it?
Aside from that it is working OK and downloads updates automatically about 4 times a day.
Windows Xp Startup Stuck On Ntfs.sys?
Sunday, October 11th, 2009Hi Friends : My Windwos XP SP2 startup is stuck with a black screen.
I tried startup in all modes and no help.
But in safe mode, i can see that the startup is stuck on \windows\system32\drivers\ ntfs.sys
So with the re-installation cd – tried chkdsk and it reported no errors.
I also enabled ntfs service using the following cmd in dos
enable ntfs SERVER_BOOT_START
I see 2 other cmds
fixmbr and fixboot
Please suggest me some ways to figure out what the issue is without loosing the data in my computer.
I am still not sure if this is a hardware issue or software issue.
Will i loose data is i re-install the OS ?
Please suggest and its been days that i am stuck on this.
