Problems Setting Up Western Digital My Book External Hard Drive (setup Does Not Run Correctly)?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

ok, so I try to run the setup file that’s on the hard drive, I assume to install the utilities and stuff, and it won’t run correctly. I double click on it and the first thing it does is tell me that Flash9 ActiveX Control or later is needed. I click Yes and Flash9 Player pops up. Upon closing this window, an error tells me “Access violation” at some address in module “Flash6.ocx”, which seems to be a null pointer error. Another window appears after clicking ok here that has the WD logo on it, but then nothing else. I assume this is supposed to be the loading image for the installation wizard, but it doesn’t progress beyond that. What could be wrong?
P.S. I have tried copying to the hard drive without doing the setup and it eventually ends up telling me that there isn’t sufficient space on the drive, even though explorer says I have more than enough. I don’t know if this is helpful

I just built a new computer and after starting it up it gives me an error when i try to install XP.I boot to disk and hit enter to install XP i hit f8 to agree and then it tells me to select a drive. it then says unknown disc reffering to the harddrive (it dosent see the harddrives). so i just hit enter to install and then comes with the blue screen with setupdd.sys page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. So i restart the computer and its back again at window xp menu and i select r to repair and it brings me to a black screen where i have to type commands. i need help to get my computer working again.
I am using a gateway XP disk from my older computer.

I Have Some Problem With My Comp.when I Am Trying To Format Wit W.xp Error “setup Cannot Copy The File:ks.sys

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

most likely there is a problem with your setup cd. try to make a new ISO image for your winxp cd and burn it to a new disc. or try putting your setup disc inside a freezer for an hour or as long as you can wait. then wipe it first before you use it.
sometimes this trick work especially if the damage is caused by lite scratches.

Press Any Key To Continue…
Pressing any key restart the PC.
The same CD loads fine on my PC. What should I do?

Ram Errors, Ntfs.sys At Startup, And A Setupdd.sys Error 4 In Setup. Someone Enlighten Me.?

Friday, July 17th, 2009

I had 1.5 gigs (2 sticks) of RAM, DDR266 if you must know. Actually, the 512 card is 266 and the 1 gig card is 333 (down clocked). Anyway, yesterday I open up “system” in “control panel” (XP) and notice windows is only recognizing 1 gig. Disturbed, I yank out the 512 card (properly, of coarse) and put it back in. Same deal, not seeing it. So, I switch the cards and BOOM! System errors!!! (ntfs sys at startup) A “chkdsk” in setup and a “fixboot” fixed it all up. MAgically, I am R0ot and all RAM is now noticed in Windows. I’m a happy camper. Today, the same thing happens. I switch the cards and get the same ntsf error at startup. I run setup and get setupdd.sys error 4… DREAD!!! Now my system will only work with the 512 card. If I try to put the gig card in, I get the ntsf.sys error and when I run setup to repair I get the setupdd.sys error… What is going on! This RAM is fairly new, and I’m guessing that whatever caused original problem is at fault and not my ram. If it is my RAM, then good, I get new ram for free and that isn’t so bad. But if its my mobo… I’m going to cry.
