I have a Toshiba Laptop. When I turn it on. I get the following error message.
Lsass.exe – Bad Image The appliation or DLL C:\Windowssystem32\lsasrv.dll is not a valid Windows image
I get this error and prompts me to press “ok”. I press ok and then nothing. I wait for a few minutes and still nothing.
I then turn off my computer because it won’t allow me to do anything else, it doesn’t load anything. I turn off my computer and start it in the “Safe” mode and the same thing happens. I get the error message, press “ok” and then the screen turns blank. Nothing!
It’s not loading anything.
I don’t think I’ve got the operation sytem diskette. I have the Toshiba “Recover and Applications/Drivers DVD” (Satellite A100/A105 Series)
I can’t do anything on my laptop. Help!

For a couple of days I was receiving the following error on my XP Pro laptop when I would try to boot the machine:
“lsass.exe System Error
An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed irrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system’s image of the registry.”
I could not boot the machine even in safe mode. Norton GoBack was installed and when I finally disabled it at the boot screen, I was able to boot the machine.
Is there anything I should do to avoid this error in the future before shutting the machine down? Windows had installed the indexing service and my drive space is now down to 4.4GB (7%).
The only other clue is that Windows explorer locks up alot. I have done a thorough SpinRite analysis of the drive and it all checks out good.
Just want to do anything else that might avoid the problem again (or be prepared for it) before I shut the machine down.
Thanks.

My friend has been getting the above messages and then the system shuts down and the screen turns off. I have tried F8 rebooting and using the delete button at start-up and even tried to reinstall using the master cd but the pc turns off after a few seconds. She did not have adequate firewall/antivirus measures active before she went online but I’ve become confused as to whether lsass.exe is the sasser virus or not. the lsass, exe message states ”When trying to update the password, this return status indicates that the
