I am trying to install, pre SP1 ver., on a fresh system and am constantly getting an error message as soon as it is done with the initializing and is ready to start the installation. The error states:
“A problem was detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage…..”
and I will get the technical information:
*** Stop: 0×0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF748E0BF, 0xF78DA208, 0xF78D9F08)
*** PCI.sys – address F748E0BF base at F7487000, datestamp 3b7d855c
I tried the installation multiple times and every time I got the same error at the same place. I replaced my Video card, removed my sound card, removed my RAM, switched HDD, switched Optical Drives but nothing helped. I will greatly appreciate any help I can get from the tech gurus out there. I have used the same CD multiple times in the past and it worked flawlessly. The last installation I did with that same CD was on an E8400 system last summer and it worked perfectly.
I tried to install Kubuntu 8.10 last night and that installed without any problem, so my hardware is good. But the problem is that I cant use Linux because most of the softwares I use does not support Linux. I was going to install Windows XP first and then was going to upgrade to Vista, but I am stuck for now.
My current rig specs are:
Intel i7 920.
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5.
G.Skill 12800 RAM (3GB).
nVidia 9800 GT OC.
Xclio 650W PSU.
Creative Fidelity Soundcard.
HP DVD.
Sony BD-ROM.
Dual WD VelociRap HDD (300GB ea).
No RAID Setup.
Thank you all in advance.

a)installing the older version of XP (to get around the pci.sys mystery error) when everything worked
