Can Recovery Disks Fix A “failed” Hard Drive?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

I shut down my new pc while windows.net framework was updating, and ever since then I have been getting a BIOHD-8 error in the diagnostic, the only thing that will even run
I really think its just a windows error, I would like to be sure before I put the newly received recovery disks in.

Xp Boot Disks Error?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Dell Optiplex GX110
256 MB RAM upgraded today to 512 MB RAM
Phoenix Bios A02
I am working on this PC for a friend who is computer illiterate and has managed to contract about 20 different Trojans and Viruses. Instead of trying to clean up the mess we agreed to do a clean install. I went into BIOS to check the boot order, placing the CD-ROM first, but was unable to get the PC to boot from the CD-ROM drive. All it does is go directly into Windows without saying “to boot from CD press any key….” I even went so far as to disable the hard drive in BIOS and it still wouldn’t boot from the CD. I made XP Home SP2 boot discs. Got to disc 5 and received the following message:
File ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error (4113) at line 5091 in d:\xpsprtn\base\boot\setu…
Press any key to continue.
Setup failed. Press any key to restart your computer.
I couldn’t find anything on Google that had the same error code. Any ideas what could be causing this?
