Dell C600 Ati Drivers Won’t Load!?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I’m very experienced with computers, but I’ve finally found one that’s got me stumped.
I reinstalled Windows XP, and now I can’t get my ATI Mobility 3 drivers to work on my Dell c600 laptop . The C600 Drivers and Downloads page only has Win2k drivers. Maybe that was my first mistake, because I went ahead and downloaded the Windows 2000 drivers, (after all, XP is Win2k-based, they should work, right?)
So I ran the ATI driver setup.exe, and clicked Accept, Next, etc. and then… I get an error, “Driver not Found!”, I click OK, another error window appears: “SEVERE: Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adaptor with a standard vga driver before running setup.”
Probably the weirdest part of all is even though the DirectX Diagnostic (dxdiag.exe) detects the standard vga.sys driver, the Device Manager does not. It doesn’t even show a Display adapter of any kind. See screenshot: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2583/3988… Is there an IRQ conflict?
So I figured it’s the chipset driver that needs to be installed first in order to install the video adapter. At that point I went to Intel.com and downloaded the chipset driver. (440BX Mobile AGPset). I got an error when I tried installing it: “the current operating system supports the Intel chipset devices on your system. No INF update is needed”
No update needed? :S That’s crazy, does anyone have any advice, please?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Every time I try to start my Dell it begins to boot then goes to a blue screen, I have tried to boot in last known good configuration as well as safe mode to no avail. I believe that I may have done something to the registry trying to remove stupid anti-virus malware. I had deleted the malware under task manager then removed it from my computer under programs and ran crap cleaner to fix registry issues worked fine initially but now 2 days later the computer will only go to blue screen with the following error message:

Dell Dimension 8200 Start Up Error?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

The message states:
“A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you’ve seen this Stop error sceen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable drives or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select safe mode.

Anyone know how to fix this? Greatly appreciative if you would help and your solution works. My mother needs to pay her bills on that computer, not either of the laptops we have. That computer is the only one we have that she can do some specific types of bills on. Again, PLEASE HELP!
