Windows XP Home Edition
First, I thought our monitor was going out. Finally, one morning, we could turn the computer on, but see no screen, except when it was unplugged from the tower itself, where it clearly displayed “Check Signal”. Turns out that, among other things, the video or graphics card was out. So, they replaced the video/graphics card (actually put in a second one since my original is built-in) and fixed the screen problem, but now, Windows will not start up at all except for in Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking.
If I try to start up in normal mode or in Last Known Good Configuration, it goes to a black screen after displaying the windows logo and the scrolling blue bar. It’ll sit there and do nothing. Last night, I got it to work on Last Known Good config. because the mouse cursor appeared, so I pushed Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it started up after it performed a 5 stage checkdisk. Unfortunately, my mother put her Diablo II game in and it crashed it. Now, this morning, it’s back to only working in safe mode.
I DID get the error that says “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted: System32\Drivers\pci.sys
I went and changed the settings for the computer to load up the CDROM drive before the hard drive, used my Windows XP Home CD to expand the file from D:\i386\psi.sy_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers /y. It still would not start up. I received the error again, so it must not have worked. I tried to perform the full checkdisk again, but it didn’t work.
It will also not open in Debug mode. Black screen response for over a half an hour.
I tried going to the device manager and decreasing the hardware acceleration. Didn’t do a thing.
Screen resolution is just fine.
In the Device Manager, nothing is coming up as corrupted or needing updates.
I’ve searched all over google and done all of this, and it still will only boot up in Safe Modes.
Is there anything in my regedit that I should look for? I read that I should look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Wi… Version\Winlogon\Notify to check and see if anybody installed anything in there, but what exactly do I look for?
I cannot run the winnt\32 /cmdcons from the i386 folder of the CD for some reason.
The NeoComputers store also gave me MalwareBytes and Spyware Terminator to run on the computer last night, but it didn’t come up with anything that wasn’t a false positive (i.e. PopCap game data from the MahJong that my mother bought from Yahoo).
What caused this, and what else can I do to fix it here at home so that I can avoid paying $65+ per hour for them to root around my files?
My Computer Crashed And It Keeps Loading This Blue Screen?
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010I was browsing the internet and I was just looking at a post and all the sudden my computer froze up and these pop ups from the xp kept popping up and I couldn’t do anything. Its probably a virus but I restarted the computer but I keep getting this blue screen even in safe mode. Is there a way to save the system and return it to the way it was without having the wipe the harddrive clean?
The Blue Screen says:”

Check with your hardware vendor for an BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. (already did – nothing)

Need Desperate Computer Help Please.?
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010I would first like to start off by saying that I’m only fourteen and I’m not too technically savvy. So I ask that if you are going to help me and give me a solution to my problem, that you be descriptive and clear so I can understand it.
I have a three-year-old Sony Vaio desktop that I’ve had for about a year now. It was given to me by a friend of my brother and since I’ve gotten it, it’s always ran kind of sluggish. But it worked and I could do everything on it so I thought nothing of it.
Starting in mid-July, I would occasionally get a BSOD error when I would start up my computer. All I had to do was restart and it would work fine; but the errors kept becoming more frequent and seemed to occur in a pattern.
The BSODs stopped in September (That’s when I started school and wasn’t on my computer as often) but recently began again. Now my computer won’t even start up anymore and all I get is the same BSOD no matter what I do. I can’t even boot it up in Safe Mode.
This is what I managed to remember from the blue screen:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
0×0000000D1
And after attempting to boot it up a few times, the text ‘NDIS.SYS’ appeared towards the bottom along with other numbers and stuff.
Can anyone help me out and give a diagnosis/solution for my problem? And please don’t give me download links for any diagnosis programs because I obviously can’t get it on my computer.
Thank you so very for your help.
My Computer Was On During A Power Outage And When I Turned It Back On It Wasn’t The Same…?
Monday, February 22nd, 2010During the outage the power went off for about 3 seconds on for about 1 second and off for about 30 minutes, this happened when my computer was on. When the power came back up I turned on the computer and everything loaded well but when I tried to open Firefox it said there was an error. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but it still didn’t work. The next day when I turned my computer on more error messages occurred. Not only did Firefox not work but Internet Explorer doesn’t either, in fact most of my programs couldn’t run! Including my games like Halo 2, and Age of Empires III. When turning on the computer I keep getting LogonUIexe_Bad Image and C:\Windows\sysyem32\rtutlis.dll, WFWIZ_vistaexe_Bad Image, C:\Windows\system32\avicap32.dll just to name a few. I ran a virus scan but that didn’t help and now when I click on my start menu it won’t open. It’s at the point where almost nothing
