The file is mup.sys and I want to try to copy over the file with an uncorrupted version. I am using Vista, and want to do the equivalent of a repair install in XP, but I can’t boot into Windows, even in safe mode. Alternatively, I tried to remove my hard drive and connect it via usb adapter to another computer to copy an uncorrupted mup.sys, but there is always a vista permissions error that will not let me copy over the file. Is there a way to copy over a corrupt file? I have the Vista DVD.

Computer Won’t Boot…ntldr Is Mising, Cannot Recover Xp With Cd?
Sunday, January 3rd, 2010Everytime I try to start Windows XP it says NTLDR is missing press ctrl alt del to restart. When I put my windows XP CD in the drive and click boot from CD-Rom it will sometimes say the same thing. Other times it will begin to go to the windows setup, but will have an error. (file i386.biosinfo.inf could not be loaded, toside.sys could not be loaded, setupdd.sys could not be loaded, ect.) each time i have to restart my computer. I’m getting really sick of this. it seems to be a different error each time.
Is there a way to recover or re-install windows XP on my computer without having all of these errors?
Any help or explanation would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!
Cannot Access Floppy Or Dvd-rom From Command Prompt?
Saturday, January 2nd, 2010Hi, Please help.
I can access both floppy drive and DVD drive from Windows XP Pro GUI. However when I open command prompt and type “cd a:\” or “cd d:\” (or “cd a:” or “cd d:” (d: is my DVD drive letter)), the system types (outputs) “D:\” or “A:\” but the prompt remains as before (last line is still “C:\>”). No error messages. Thus cannot access my floppy or DVD files from command prompt.
I tried typing “cmd /K d:\” into Run utility and opened new command prompt shows DVD well but again, cannot switch to a: or c:
Have some of you resolved similar problem? Thank you in advance.
PS: if it can help, my system and boot partitions are different and I created boot partition already after Windows installation (new active partition K:) and copied the content of the C: drive (files only (like config.sys etc)) to a new active K: partition. Not sure if it can cause the problem.
Cannot Dual Install Os??
Monday, December 28th, 2009i used GPARTED software to successfully partition my harddisk which currently is installed with XP operating system (without wiping the existing XP).The problem here is that i cannot successfully install another operating system on the newly created partition.
when i begin installation, while the installation files are being copied from the CD to the harddisk – i mean the stage that the screen displays:
“Windows setup:
Set up is loading files (Window Setup)”
Suddenly the whole proccess stops with an error message saying:
The file pci.sys is corrupted
press any key to continue
and when i press any key, the next message will say:
setup failed press any key to restart your computer
it simply goes on like this and never installs.
This happens when i attempted to install XP but when inserted windows 2000 CD to install, its the same result. I noticed one thing, this above steps works fine on pentium3 machines. but this machine is a new pentium4 laptop. whats the cause please?
