Svchost.exe Apllication Error?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Hello all.
I’ll get right to the point.
My computer is giving me the following error:
————————————–…
svchost.exe – Application Error
The instruction at “0×00aa9eec” referenced memory at “0×00000000″. The memory could not be “written”.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.
————————————–…
What I know about the error:
- It seeminly only occurs when I am trying to open “My Computer.” If I go straight to C drive, it doesn’t happen. This isn’t 100% solid, as it will occur randomly if I am trying to do other thigns, but mostly this triggers it.
- I have determined 100%, that if I disable “Plug and Play” service from either msconfig or services.msc, this fixes the problem. However, I then do not have device manager (as it is loaded based on the pnp service).
- I added some printer drivers a while back. I went to their website and found I was using newer drivers than they had released, I down-dated back to their latest version and still no fix.
- I do not have a debugging program loaded on this machine so I can’t look at the error in more detail. Would this help if I could look at it closer using vb.net or something?
- When the error appears, a new entry in the “processes” tab in task manager appears. This entry is titled svchost.exe, and it disappears as soon as I press OK to cancel it.
- I tried disabling many other services but only the pnp seems to fix it.
- I have fully updated / scanned / chkdsk / anty-spyware / security patched the computer using any and all links I could find regarding this error.
- I want to repeat, this is SVC, not SCV, I know the SCV is a
known virus.
