Windows Xp Media Reinstall Setup Issues?

I Get as far as accepting the agreement of windows and then i get this “searching for previous versions of Microsoft windows”.. and it doesnt get past that screen whatsoever..the error i was getting that prompted me to reinstall was “system32\drivers\pci.sys corrupt or missing”… i neeeed help and i dont have money to have this professionally done.. thanx

  1. debug the drive, follow the commands at the bottom of the this webpage:http://www.fdisk.com/fdisk/HardDrive.htm
    then reinstall windows from the cd.

    It sounds as if you’re installling from an “upgrade disk”, all it wants you to do is put a previous operating system cd into the drive to verify that you owned a prevous OS.
    You won’t be able to boot at this time because your OS isn’t fully loaded/installed.

  3. My suggestion is to delete the existing partition on your hard drive and create a new one. The Windows installer can do this. Then you’ll get rid of the corrupt file that’s screwing up the install process.
