Windows Xp Blue Screen Of Death. Specifics Included In Question. Help?

I recently got a blue error message. I believe it was the Blue Screen Of Death (not the “Windows has encountered an error and will be shut down” message), and these are the specifics it gives me:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
(and here are the hex addresses it give me under technical information)
*** STOP: 0×000000D1 (0×00000018,0×00000002,0×00000000,0×0xF8…
*** iastor.sys – Address F813125D base at F8122000, DateStamp 422f3bcc
I know a few things about computers. I have a somewhat understanding of how hex works, and those hex values look like addresses. I believe they are literally the source of the problem. I believe my computer was accidentally shut down mid-update, or there might have been a program or driver (or possibly even a virus) that could have interfered with a Windows update and caused it to shut down without finishing said update. Also, I can’t start Safe Mode, I get a string of messages that read like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WI… sys driver here*
It stops with the sys driver on agpCPQ.sys.
In other words, Windows won’t even start up. I know the operating system still exists on the computer because the logo pops up when I try to boot it normally. Plus, system restore doesn’t work; it just restarts my computer.
If anybody can tell me a possible way to fix this problem it would be wonderful. I do have two computers (both running XP) but I’m working on my masters degree and all my homework is on the broken computer. Its all due in just two days so I need help immediately!
Remember, I have two computers both running XP, so if there is a way I can use my working computer to fix my broken one then include that in your answer please. Thank you.
(Closing note, I don’t have the start-up disc.)

  1. When you turn your computer on, just after post-boot (before the Windows XP loading screen appears) hit the F8 key.
This will give you a boot menu. One of the menu options is to boot in Safe Mode. Another option is to boot “Last Known Good Configuration”.
Try both of these options and see what you get.
Looking from the error above, I there is an issue with the video card, or the drivers for the video card in your computer. Do you have an on-board video card on your motherboard? If so, try connecting your monitor to that and remove the AGP video card.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new software, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

You can get it to boot by hitting delete during start up which gives you the options of booting from last good configuration which is what youll need to do.Hit delete, scroll around in bios till u see the options choose last good configuration.

Instead of trying to fix your OS since you seem to be in a dsperate rush to get at your data, I would suggest removing your HD, look at the jumper settings (if it is an IDE drive) , turn it into a Slave (directions would be on the drive itself) and hook it up to the second connector on the IDE cable of your second computer.
If you have a problem here, just leave the jumpers as they are and connect it instead of your DVD drive. If that doesn’t work, make sure your jumpers are on Slave this time.
If it is a Sata , just connect it to a SATA connection on your other computer.
Like that you will be able to access the drive and get your info. When you are done, you can format it from there, reinstall the drive and put back the OS, if you have the Cd

The Blue Screen may come from your registry. You lost some files of your system. You need to repair your system.
