Should I Download This For My Laptop? (toshiba A505 S6960)?

Last night the blue screen of death appeared on my computer screen and I wrote down the error code. I called Toshiba support center and they told me to turn the computer off restart and continue to press f8 and click on last boot configuration or something like that. The computer works fine now. However the woman I spoke to said that she doesn’t know why my computer crashed in the first place. So I called the IT help desk at my university and gave them the error code. They told me it meant there was a problem with the network drivers and I should install an update I did as told and received the message that my computer already had the best possible software installed and so the helper told me that there must be a problem with the actual wi-fi card and that I would need to send the laptop in to either best buy’s geek squad or toshiba. I live on campus with no car and best buy is far away, classes start wed. so I don’t have time to send it into toshiba and wait for it to get back. I can’t afford to be without a laptop, anyways I went onto Toshiba’s support website typed in the make/model: Satellite A505-S6960 and found a support bulletin titled: Wi-Fi data transfer may stop temporarily, “Copy File” error message. It basically said to download this Atheros wireless LAN driver thing. Here’s the link to the bulletin:

I really don’t want to download this and get even more problems so if someone could read the bulletin and tell me whether or not this will solve my problem that would be helpful. Also, the error code I got on the blue screen of death was 0×000000d1 NETw5v64.sys if that will help.

First, you should identify the manufacturer of the WiFi adapter that is in your laptop. There are drivers for Atheros and Intel based adapters on the driver download page. If you have an Intel based card the Atheros fix won’t apply. Also the fix is for a problem that you aren’t experiencing, general advice is if you don’t see the issue, then don’t install the patch.
If you didn’t download the updated driver from here..http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/…
I suggest you do that. Again you need to identify what chipset (Atheros/Intel) your WiFi card is based on, check the Device Manager, or right click on your Wifi connection and view properties.
Also run Microsoft/Windows update to make sure all available updates are applied to your O/S.
    Hope this helps
