Problem Installing New Hard Drive And Os.?

I just tried to install my new hard drive and xp.
I followed all the instructions and after it booted from the xp cd and partitioned the drive then I selected NTFS and it performed that function to 100% then it came up with a screen that says (and this is a brand new drive, just out of packaging)
WINDOWS HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM: IF IT IS THE 1ST TIME YOU’VE SEEN THIS ERROR RESTART. DISABLE ANY ANTIVIRUS, DISK DEFRAG OR BACKUP UTILITIES. CHECH HARD DRIVE CONFIGURATION AND CHECK FOR ANY UPDATED DRIVERS. RUN CHKDSK/F TO CHECK FOR HARD DRIVE CORRUPTION & RESTART.
TECHNICAL INFO: ***STOP: 0X00000024 (0X001902FE, 0XFBV87664, 0XFBC87360, 0XFB4533A0)

I would download Killdisk. Zero the drive using that. The free one is fine. Download the version that makes a bootable floppy disk. Reformat the drive in NTFS and try it again. If it come up with the same error code again I would return the drive. Hard drives – notebook ones in particular are very touchy beasts. I have had several bad new ones over the last 10 years or so.

Try formatting the drive first and make sure it set to Master if this drive is your primary drive. After formatting the drive, try reinstall windows. This looks a lot like your drive is not formatting correctly and not configure correctly.

  3. Spock says:

Check to see if Master/Slave configuration is set correctly.
    Check polarity of ribbon cable.
Make sure you set partition size to less than 137 Gigabytes.

  4. It seems you have a format problem there. Just try to format your drive again using FAT32 and re-install windows, then when you have windows up and running, then convert the partition to NTFS using the Convert command on the CMD.

    do the following:
    1. boot from the xp CD
    2. choose to boot the recvoery console
    3. when the prompt appears type chkdsk /f
    4. allow the computer to run the scan disk operation.
    5. try to install again
    6. if this does not work replaces the hard drive under the manufacturer’s warranty.

It seems like you got started OK.
You might try to reboot into SAFE mode and see if it is still functional. If that works, then reboot again.
You might start from the beginning again.
