I woould say that you are probably using an older version of windows that is incompatible with the player version being offered. If you look deeper into microsft’s site you will find a link to older versions on the player. You have two choices at this point. If your computer will allow, you can update to a newer version of windows, and I am guessing you are using like win95. Or just find the player for your operating system.
go to http://www.windowsmediaplayer.com find the operating system that you have, then download that version ie: i have windows me so i can’t go above wmp ver 9….
