it’s an iQon laptop i get that message everytime i try to boot i have inserted the origanal disc but nothing, it starts to read the disc but i end up back in the same place everytime its driving me mad
does anyone know how to fix this
Have seen this before, could be 2 things, 1) your XP CD is corrupt and every time it tries to load it errors out. 2) Your CDROM is causing the problem and it is having problems reading the disk causing the failure.
Recommendations:
Use another computer and see if the CD will boot off of that machine. If it does it is the CDROM drive.
If it doesn’t, it’s the CD and you need another copy.
If you can, try and copy the XP CD on another computer and see if that CD copy will work, just an outside chance. Another check is using a friend XP CD and you can see if it will load. That way you can determine if it is the CD or CDROM.
If your laptop boots off USB you might also try an external CDROM drive, if you know of anyone with one.

Obviously the users posting here are not reading your post correctly, from what I have read you ARE attempting to use the restore (XP) disk but it continually fails when you execute it hence the “D:” drive indentifier signifying a CD/DVDROM drive. Please provide additional information if I am wrong.

If you have tried multiple CD’s to reinstall the operating system then I think you can rule out the CD as being bad. I would try and external CDROM drive if it will boot off USB or replacing the CDROM. I had a laptop that had similar problems and it turned out to be the HD.
If you know someone with an external 2.5″ HD case remove the computers HD and put it in the external case, copy the files you want to save and format it. Now put it back in and see if it will load.
Alternantly if you have 2 SODIMM memory chips in the computer try removing one and attempt to load. If it does the same thing then switch them and attempt to load again. If it still fails you can rule out the RAM memory causing the problem.
Well I hope this helps

Never seen that before, but what you can do is take the error message, and google the whole thing or just the error (512) and it should give you a lot of pages most of which probably have a solution.
Read the info at the below link and go from there
Your memory is probably gone. Also check your power box.
Anyway what are you doing with an iqon? the best laptops are made by IBM get one of those and you won’t have such problems
restore the whole laptop thats what usually dose the thing
I advice to make format to your computer
You have a startup application that is corrupt:
Go to Start > Run. Now type in ‘msconfig’ without the quotes. Open the StartUp tab. Scroll down the list looking for something that resembles xpsprtm etc. Untick it. Click apply, click ok.
