My Windows XP Pro system starts up perfectly every time but when I try to start it up in Safe Mode – it begins to load – then at the file “KMXSTART.SYS” (this file is part of Computer Associates Firewall) it stops – then I receive a blue screen with the following error message: (this message is in part only) – “A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.” The rest of the message is generic instructional but the very last part of the message is ” IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” . End of message. Does anyone know why I am receiving this error message and why I cannot enter into Safe Mode?
Ther is some information stored in files about the loacation of the files that is used to run windows. If this files are damaged then u can get this type of message.
One way to solve this to install windows xp again on the currently installed windows. (use upgrage windows option not the new/fresh installation option while installing windows).
When u install win xp again your currently installed program’s registery will not be removed and u can use them without the need to reinstall them.
When u reboot ur computer and press f8 continously, there are options like: Safemode, Safemode with networking. etc……select Safemode with networking and after that keep on pressing esc button, after that windows will prompt if u want to proceed or not, press yes and voila
This oughta explain it:

I got there by copy/pasting “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” into google.com; it was the first result.
