A System File Is Corrupted And Cannot Be Repaired By Startup Repair. How Can I Copy Over The Corrupted File?

The file is mup.sys and I want to try to copy over the file with an uncorrupted version. I am using Vista, and want to do the equivalent of a repair install in XP, but I can’t boot into Windows, even in safe mode. Alternatively, I tried to remove my hard drive and connect it via usb adapter to another computer to copy an uncorrupted mup.sys, but there is always a vista permissions error that will not let me copy over the file. Is there a way to copy over a corrupt file? I have the Vista DVD.

I wish I could tell you the exact one but the name escapes me…anyway.
Do a search for a boot disk, recovery disk, offline boot disk.
What you want to be able to do is use an offline boot disk that has a small linux OS on it. Put that in your CD and it will provide access to the drive for file repair. Copy a good file to a flash drive then paste it into the normal os location.
    good luck.
