I want to buy a gtx 285 but im not sure which one.
There is the BFG Graphics GF GTX 285 1GB PCI-E OCX
Or the cheaper ones. The BFG has a higher clock speed at 702 MHz and higher memory clockspeed at 2.664 GHz. Is this just because the BFG card is an overclocked version of the cheaper ones?
Would it be worth getting a cheaper gtx 285 and just overclocking it myself, would it be just the same?
Thanks
The factory overclocked version is usually the better performer but more expensive because of the bigger/better cooler and the higher profit margin that they put on it. The GTX 285 has a nice headroom for overclocking that is why there are now plenty of factory overclocked models.
You may opt to get the stock model and just overclock it yourself. The models with better cooling solution tends to overclock higher. Asus even made it easier to OC their GTX 285,http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/ASUS-G…
Here’s one OC exercise on a stock model.http://www.guru3d.com/article/gigabyte-g…
If your are comfortable with OCing then you may want to try it, but if your OC the card and it went south you going to have a hard time returning the card and get credit or money back on it. On the other hand the OCX card are factory OC so they are responsible for the OCing the card out of spec.
