Vista Ntoskonl.exe Missing Error Help :(?

Whenver I boot my laptop, I get an error saying that a file is missing or corrupted, then it says
ntoskonl.exe
at the bottom it says
oxc0000098
I got this laptop from my cousin awhile ago, I asked him and he said that he threw the CD that the computer is asking for right now away.
Is there any way I can fix this error without the CD?
Or am I now the proud owner of a nine hundred dollar coaster.
I have already tried booting from safe mode and last known good configuration.

  1. Dream Chaser says:

This problem’s caused by an error in the installation code of Vista. So Safe Mode doesn’t work and neither does LKGC. And it really doesn’t help that you don’t have the Vista DVD. Our only option is to try to get into the Recovery console. Restart the computer and keep tapping F8. Select the Repair your computer option. In the recovery tools, select Command Prompt. Type in chkdsk C: /F. If you get this far, this should fix it. Otherwise, stating the obvious, yeah you need the DVD. Sorry.
