Should I Repair Windows Xp Or Reinstall It After A Rundll32.exe Error?

I was infected by rogue spyware, thankfully I managed to get it off by un-registering the dddesot.dll file. But because I did it manually, I did critical damage to my system. Note: next time I’ll just buy Spy Doctor.
I’m required to open programs from Program Files whenever I execute an application. I cannot uninstall any programs nor install programs either. It’s become a real problem, and I plan to fix it immediately.
I just don’t know whether I should repair my OS(WinXP Home Edition) or just reinstall the whole thing. If I should repair it, how should I do that and will it format my drive?
Note: I have arranged to backup my data.

a repair should suffice, or even a xp restore if you can go back far enough before the virus hit.

    Just suggestions..
You don’t say the name of your PC, that is the brand.
It may have a hidden backup/restore partition on it.
I do take it that you went to System Restore in Windows and attempted to revert the PC back to an earlier time when it was running efficiently.??
Hidden partitions are accessed on Pcs with different Keys pressed.
Many PC users don’t even know about the Hidden partition.
Computers that have the original Windows edition installed and do have hidden factory installed partitions include>>
HP Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, Acer Aspire series, GigaByte Pc’s, and some ASUS Pc’s…
The Keys to Press are either:
    F9, F10, F11,F12 or combinations of Alt + F9, Alt + F10.
From your Info, it seems obvious you lost the START Menu setup.

You should do a repair install. This will clean up your computer and leave your programs and data intact. Michael Stevens Tech has all the details http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairin…
If this works out, you may want to download malwarebytes and run it in safe mode just to make sure you are clear of any viruses.
An alternative method that you could use that is simple and automatic and will take care of any virus problem but costs a little is to use Reimage. The details of this process are here http://www.askthecomputerdoc.com/blog/re…

Most computer errors are born in a part of your system which hardly anyone knows or understands – the registry. This is the central database of Windows, which actually stores some of your computer’s most important files and settings. Everything from your latest emails to your desktop wallpaper are kept in this database, making it one of the most used parts of the Windows system.Because it’s used so much, the registry database is actually prone to becoming corrupt and damaged, which makes Windows struggle to read the files inside it. Unfortunately, 100’s of registry files are corrupted every week and Windows has no way to protect against it – it’s this problem which causes most of your computer’s errors. The problem is that when these files are corrupted, your PC actually takes longer to read them and often can’t read them at all. This causes errors on your PC which seem to appear randomly. You can use a Registry cleaner. http://cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com Registry cleaners are tools which have been created to scan through the registry. They work by scanning each file and then checking to see if it’s corrupt or causing problems. If they find that it is broken, the registry cleaner will replace or fix the file for you to make your computer speed up and become free of errors. You should have a try! Good Luck!
