Hello, I have a Dell Laptop running Vista Basic… but everytime i turn it on after i enter my password it gives me the following error:
Explorer.exe – bad image
C:windows\system32\shdocvw.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.
I’ve tried starting up in safe mode and also booting up from repair disk. I’ve also tried to restore to an earlier time and chkdsk /f to see if it repaired it.
Any suggestions??
again, it goes up to the part when i can enter the password to log on, but then it just wont respond.

Try booting of a Windows install disk… From there you can run a repair of windows, if not your only option might be to reinstall windows vista…. I recommend to try Windows 7 Beta, its much better, faster, and free for almost a year….

The most likely cause is a bloated registry which has become the home for all kinds of useless bits and pieces of data. Whenever you start the computer the system reads the values from the registry entries to initialize the components that are essential for system to run smoothly. Whenever any change is made to the system settings or a program is installed or uninstalled, a new entry is generated in the registry. In this way, with continuous use the registry gets piled up with data most which is not used by the system. Especially the outdated entries and traces of incomplete software uninstallation remain in the registry without any use making the registry size bigger. These unimportant registry entries make the system slower as well as prone to frequent system errors. With a registry cleaner you can clean up the registry and fix the registry quiet easily.
I should like to commend Registry Easy (http://www.cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com to you ! Of course you can also try others!
